Winter Carnival & Advanced Standing
3 Moore Hall BOWDOIN COLLEGE BRUNSWICK, MAINE Feb 21, 63
Dear mother,
Got your letter about a week ago just when we were all getting set for our Winter Carnival which came off last weekend. The weekend was marked by such social activities as dances, plays, drinking parties, sports meets etc. It was exciting and provided a marked contrast with the usual unstimulating atmosphere characteristic of Bowdoin campus. The weekend is over now and once more again we are back to the usual routine of classwork and tests.
My final grades for the last semester were all marginal - C+ in each of the courses. However the dean
is quite satisfied with them, strangely enough. Perhaps he did not expect me to pass at all. He is now considering my application for advanced standing and has referred my credentials to people who are supposed to have some knowledge of the British educational set up. Wish me luck for I need a lot of it.
We have been having a series of track meets. I have only been placed once when I came second in 600 yards run. We still have more meets ahead. Track practice provides me with some relief from the incredibly dull life I lead in this part of the country.
We had some very cold weather last week (-20°F on Friday night) but the temperature has now risen and for three days we have had snow fall. It is surprising how warm one feels when the temperature rises from -20°F to about 25°. It feels like Summer.
Jean must be on her vacation still. It must be lonely and dreary for her when you and dad go to work.
Please extend my greetings to Dad and Jean.
Yrs affectionately, Onye
